  • Tide help

Hello guys i'm pretty new to this. What do you's mean by fishing the ebb, 2 hours down 4 hours up etc? is the ebb before low tide? for example say low tide is 11am is the ebb 2 hours before low water and the up to hours after that? cheers for the help.

yes mate the ebb is when the tide is going out (low water), when people say 4 hours up just means fishing 4 hours into the tide coming back in (the flood) after low water

each tide is about 6 hours aswell, so 2 hours before low tide means it would of been going out 4 hours and fishing 4 hours up would see u fishing till 2 hours before high water

As you get to know the sport better you will hopefully see a pattern emerging between the wind and tides and what areas fish on a certain tide and swell direction, some beaches may fish 3 hours into the flood and maybe 2 hours into the ebb with a south easterly swell or they might fish the last 3 hours of the ebb and maybe 1 hour up. What might help you when fishing is when you catch fish maybe make a note of the size of the tide you fished, how far in to the tide you started to catch the fish and swell direction.

Ie: high water is at 7.36pm, 4.8m, 3ft northerly swell.
Started catching fish at 5pm and no more bites after 8pm.

Now that to me for the mark you were fishing gives you a window from my point of view to fish for 3 hours ( 2.5 hours before high water and 1 hour after).

Hope this sorts of helps. Later on when you get the hang of things you could maybe add pressure in to it as well.
