  • Getting back into it ...

Hello all, just thought id show my face since ive been trawling this site for info for awhile and not introduced myself. Im 22, currently live in north Northumberland, lucky me lol. Anyway ive just recently got back into sea fishing, i live right next to the coast so decided that i may aswell make use of my local beach. I used to be fishing mad when i was a teenager then lost interest for some reason, found new hobbies ect and sold all my gear. It was top notch kit, much better than what im using at the moment, i really regret it now, but know not to make that mistake again. So yeah im back into it now and ive been out 3 times with only 2 fish caught, i know fishing is in my blood because as much as i am abit dissappointed with my recent outings, it just makes me want to try harder to get a big'un.

My first and second trip was at Longhoughton beach
Fished of the rocks in gale force winds as the tide was coming in, it was hard work. But with no fish caught i still enjoyed my first session in 3 years...With some bait left over from the day before i decided to fish the same spot but from the beach this time, tide was coming in, wind had died down abit. Caught 1 decent size Plaice, was not what i was looking for but still very welcome.

Third trip was down the Royal Quays (High Shore) today
Decided to fish there because that is where i spent most of my fishing days as i was younger. Brought back some memories. Anyway had loads of bites but no fish, fished there for 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide and still nothing. So i decided i was not coming all the way here to blank, i dropped some bait down the side where knew there would be something swimming around. Hooked a canny grannyfish or whatever it was lol. Better than nowt. Overall opinion of this place, brought back good memories, but rubbish place to fish. Got snagged a few times, bringing up all kinds of ****, from scrap metal to other anglers rigs, free weights atleast.

So now ive decided to save up some cash and invest in a decent beachcaster like what i used to have instead of this crap 10ft rod im using now. Im going to take advantage of the fact ive got a lovely beach on my doorstep and become very familiar with my local mark over the next few years or however long ill be here and chase those big ones, i know there is one out there waiting for me!

Hope i didnt bore you, and be nice, its my first post

Welcome to NESA mate. Canny bit of a fishing venue contrast like, Longhoughton versus Royal Quays.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome!
Hope to write up a more worthwhile catch report next time.

Where i fished today, i lost all hope after about 45mins, had some nice bites in that time so was feeling pretty good until a fishing trawler boat thing starting going up and down and round right infront of me, i thought how am i with my two hooks going to compete with a giant net. I imagine there isnt alot in the Tyne anymore?

                  [Edit]

Haha yeah! Big difference. I figured i wasnt going to catch much from the beach with my poxy 10ft rod, cant get far enough out. So i though id try down where i used to fish, realised im not going the catch what im looking for there. But at least i know what to do now, typical i had a really nice 14ft Diawa (cant remember model) beachcaster when i was younger, wasnt getting used to its full capabilty and now when i need it most ive got a crappy little Fladen rod lol, i better start putting the docket down

excellent first post, welcome to NESA, some of the rock areas around where you live are fantastic and would be my dream to have on my doorstep and i feel like im spoilt with the Shields area! I personally love the Low newton and Hauxley areas. Beautiful and peaceful with great fishing. Enjoy your time back on the shoreline.

                      Welcome to the site mate.

I don't do a lot of shore fishing but took my best codling to date from High Shore.
                      Cheers, Keith.

I think that trawler thing was the dredger.

some of the beaches(and rocks) up your way only need a short cast, 10,20,30 yards is all you will need for the flatties. I would walk the beaches and rocks at low water looking for the holes and fish holding areas and target these next time your there at high water.

Yeah that is my next mission so i can keep fishing while saving up my pennies. I definately am lucky to be where i am now, i grew up in North Shields, i think it was coming up here that made me really want to start fishing again. Ill go walk along the rocks and find a good spot which doesnt require a 150yard cast.

Oh, ... But it would of still scared all my fish away right?

Thanks for the heads up, good advice, ill definately do that, and have been already without realising it, i go there on low water all the time since my dog needs a good walk. I do like catching flatties, better than blanking but i wouldnt specifically target them.
