  • Roker Pier 8th May (daytime)

This was so much fun today, we had a great catch and some very funny things happen, such as my friend lost a rig after a snag then I got a bite and hooked a flattie, got the flattie in and I also had my friends lost rig but it was funny because he had also kinda caught the fish, his hook from his lost rig was deep inside the flatties belly and mine was hooked on the lip, at first I thought that I was the only one that had hooked it but while investigating the tangled mess of his rig I had unwittingly retrieved we noticed his trace line was going into its mouth and low and behold it was still attached to the hook deep inside its belly.

That is a first ever moment for me

I felt today it was a golden session for the majority of people fishing, or at least the ones fishing on the side going out to sea, others we spoke to who were fishing the harbor side reported very little to no action but we did not speak with everyone but I got the impression they were certainly not having as much luck as we were.

One of the flatties we got had some weird kinda see through things wiggling about on it, they were absolutely tiny and on both sides of the fish, the fish was also emitting some kind of milky liquid from its gills so we suspected it may be diseased or something, my friend took a photo of it on his phone and the camera on his phone is fairly good so hopefully he will post a picture of this fish and hopefully we can see these little things crawling (wiggling?) about on the flattie as I would like to know what this was as I dont think I have ever seen that before. (if anyone knows what it was from my description please tell)

    8th May - Roker Pier (What a day !) - Google Maps

Thanks for taking the time and interest in my fishing trip.

Anyone who may be unsure of Google Maps will not have to download or install any software, simply click my link and it will take you to a zoomed out view of the area in which we fished, on the left hand side you will see the fishing places in blue text, simply click the blue text (eg Fishing Spot 1 etc etc) and you will be automatically shown the exact spot I was fishing (you can use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom into that location once selected) and you should see a report of the events at that particular location.

All fish were and always will be thrown back to fight another day.
