    Hi all,

Having read so many good reports on the fishing at Port Carlisle recently, I decided to try it for myself today. Easy enough place to find and a good journey over. Parked my car about 1 mile from Port Carlisle in the car park after the one on the sharp bend and decided to fish opposite. The tide was still a very long way out when I first arrived. After speaking to a guy in the car park who once worked on the local lifeboat I didn't want to take any chances and decided to wait until the tide had nearly come all the way in before starting to fish. He told me the sand can get very soft and the tide can come in extremely fast. I watched the bore as it moved from left to right which was great to see. I was fishing light with x2 2 1/4 lb tc carp rods with 2 hook flappers and a 3oz lead. I took fresh crab, rag and mackeral for bait. Straight from the off I was catching flounders mostly to fresh crab. Got some very good bites. All in all I caught 15 the biggest one weighing 1lb 3oz. Great first trip over there, very peaceful and I will be going back again for hopefully another great days fishing.

    Regards,

    Dandin1o.

Glad you got some action, it's one of the very few places where you can virtually guarantee a decent bag of fish. I used to fish silloth (also on the solway) quite a bit about 20 years ago which was good for the flounders but port Carlisle seems a lot more consistent. Fresh crab definitely seems to take the better fish this time of year there.
The bore is great to watch, it's amazing just how fast the tide can flood in after the bore passes. It's quite safe to fish off the sandy mud in front of where you parked as long as you set your rod stand 20 yards from the water if the bore is due.
