  • Roker Pier Saturday 26/3/11

Well gents i decided to give the sea fishing another chance to get my cod catch figures up, so myself and Keith headed to Roker for a few hours. Started fishing about 4.30 and all was very quiet on the wet front. With a medium easterly blowing straight in your face it was cutting right through you.
3rd cast Keith managed to pull out a lovely little yting which was safely returned to the water.I had a few small knocks but nothing became of any of them.About 6 ish we were joined by Stu and he showed us how to catch fish of a better stamp with a reasonable sized flattie on his 2nd or 3rd cast.
So with the bit between my teeth i had to show the whipper snapper how it was done and i down sized hooks from 5/0 to 3/0 uptiders and changed baits and out it went. Got a couple of small knocks and managed to convert the second 1, in she came, a lovely Rockling, i said i wasn't going to let the oldies down.
Rebaited up and back out it went and i sat and waited around about the 40 minute mark and then just as i was sitting down to a lovely hot cup of soup a got a lovely knock, quickly followed by 2 cracking thumps, so soup was pushed to 1 side and i started reeling in. She broke the surface about 10 yards out and it was brought to the wall and i then lift it out and on to the ground. It wasn't the biggest Cod i have seen but it was a Cod all the same,Weighed in at just under 1.5lb,a lovely clean fish.
We continued to fish til just afer 9pm and nothing else was taken so i called it a night leaving Stu to do the night shift. All in all it was worth the effort for a few hours and i managed to add another Cod to my tally and was canny craic with Stu.
Have checked other sites and i haven't read of any other Cod being pulled out on Saturday so was mine one of the few stragglers left in our waters.
