  • Boathouse and Walkway 28/03/2011

tried a couple of hours at the Boathouse, sea was as flat as could be, lovely and sunny, but no fish, not even a bite.

Popped along to thw walkway on the way home for an hour or two, again nowt, but the very last cast got this lovely Flounder (I'm sure it wasnt a Plaice?)

Biggest one I've ever caught, just on 32cm's. He was cleanly hooked so went back in without an issue

Caught on runnydown, but also had rag.

Nice fish mate but I would say that's a plaice, am sure there will be plenty that'll disagree though

                welldone

think it is a flounder if you look at the fins around the out side there is one small fin near the head like on the pic

Wasnt gonna get in on this but here i am.
                        It is a plaice.
Easiest way to tell is turn the fish on its back, white side up.
The profile of the flounders is a kite shape while the plaice is a more rounded shape.

This time of year flounder have been on open beaches spawning and are light in colour which does tend to make them look very much like plaice.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

concur with Terry it's definately a plaice, dorsal fins are rounded while a flounders are squarer, also no tubercles dorsal fins meet the body, also tail fin rounded while a flounder hhas a square cut tail.

good report gary, never fished the boat house before did you fish directly infront of it or to the right on the cleaner ground? And looking at your flatty proberly say plaice just looking at the shape of the fins(charlton beat me to it)
