  • last Monday Warkworth

Last weekend was the first chance I've had to fish in the NE all year. Coincided with the Cod buggering off to chase sandeels or sprats depending on who you talk to. I fished the Tynemouth area sat and sun night and caught nothing at all. With bait left and only Monday morning before heading back to London, I went up to Warkworth beach with my bass rod and fished HW down from about 8am to 1. Not exactly prime fishing time!
Anyway, a nice morning, beach to myself and ended up tossing 3 hook flappers into a gulley that was emptying at the North end of the beach. Casting was never more than 20yrds. Caught half a dozen flounders, including one decent fat one and 2 coalies just undersize. The coalies gave such good scraps on the light gear at close range that I hoped they might be Bass. No such luck. Back at Xmas for the cod
