    Chaps

Myself and 2 intrepid fishing mateys Chris and Chip made the treck up to druridge bay for a bit of hopeful turbot bashing yesterday..

was a lovely day, not a ounce of wind, sun shining... fishing the tide up.

We were getting plaice, and dabs nearly everycast as the tide came in, often double shots... but nothing over 30cm in length... Rag and mackeral being the killer bait on a beaded short hook length one up one down rig - fished at distance..

Once high water came and passed.. the fishing died... we stuck it out until 5pm then decided on a move nearer home.. sadly no turbot showed up..

On the way out we did get to see a number of old vintage trucks / lorrys and sports car as there was some kinda ralleye on at the nature park site.. everything from steam traction engines to trans am`s, was like heartbeat meets smokey and the bandit!.

We finished the day at anglo swedish on the tyne, sadly the weed/debris and very strong tide pull running out restricted us to a few bites only but no fish... though in a complete freak of nature.. we did manage to hook 4 "jamrags" in a row! (

well done on the Jamrags lads, long time since i have seen these caught in the river Latin name...JAMICUS RAGGETH,the wear used to fish really well, the common ginger sailor was a regular visitor to the wear also they used to take shelter in the crab tyres....did the jam rags have wings, extra pat on the back if they did...difficult playing this species especially on the bigger tides.......i hope the above mentioned species were safely returned for someone else to catch

Definetly one for the photo album, as they are getting rarer, i managed to catch one of those little blue bags full of dog **** up by newcastle business park last year, though its reassuring that there waterproof when tied.

Reminds me of the good old days fishing the South Pier at Seaham and seeing how many different coloured jonnies we could count floating past on the tide

Red mottled Jamrags were much more common back then especially fishing downtide of one of the many sh*tpipes that discharged just offshore on the colliery beaches, it wasn't a nights fishing until you pulled at least one in...

yes it becoming more of a thing of the past, your grandchildren wont believe you when you tell them about the good old days when you once caught 4 doctor whites, they ll be all granda your talking b*ll*cks again, last week you told us you caught an alligator in the tyne and gave it a kicking for its troubles, and did'nt you say there used to be lions and gorillas in saltwell park.

Reminds me of the pipe at Whitley Bay late 1960's early 70's, no rock pool was complete without it's fluffy white "mouse" with blue tail.
