  • anglesey trip

just arrived back from my trip to anglesey. on the plus side caught loads of fish on the minus side had nothing of any great size.
arrived at my hotel in cemaes bay friday afternnoon, after checking in i had a stroll down the rocks at the back of the hotel with the spinning gear hoping for a few fresh macky for bait for the next day, slow going but managed to get two out.
after a good nights sleep and a good breakfast had another hours fishing off the same rocks as the previous evening only one macky this time.
that evening (sat) i fished amlwch harbour for conger (i know it has a good head of conger to over 20lb) alas not a touch on the conger baits, tried fresh macky, frozen macky and blueys. however i fished a variety of baits on another rod using a 2 hook flapper and caught loads of smallish wrasse, pollock, pouting, whitings and a couple of dogs.
on sunday fished llanbadrig, a mark close to where i was staying, a very deep rock mark but a very dodgy climb down. straight into fish, doggies on macky strip and sandeel and macky and small pollock on the spinner.
on monday fished ty-croes a known big thornback ray venue, unfortunately it was dogfish city, nothing else got a chance at the bait, lost count of the doggies caught. on the spinner had about a dozen macky and a few small pollock.
on tuesday fished hollyhead breakwater, very comfortable venue to fish as you can drive your car on and fish next to the car. only managed 4 doggies. the bloke fishing to my left got a strap conger about 6lb and the bloke to my right had a few doggies but showed me a photo of a 10lb huss he had the previous evening.
and finally yesterday decided to have an easy session to finnish the week off so fished the flat rocks at moelfre, a really comfortable rock mark 5 mins from the car and no climbing involved. only managed 1 doggie on bait but got loads of mackerel (30 to 40 lost count) on the light spinning gear, very enjoyable fishing for macky without having to haul them up a pier wall or up a cliff face in a beautiful setting with no rubbish and no chavas.
a very enjoyable trip, no monsters, plenty action (no blanks at all), nice hotel and good advice from malcom in abc tackle in beaumaris (if you ever fish anglesey use this shop, good bait and malcom will readily give you good advice on where and when to fish)
