Arrived at shields pier at about 11.30 and met up with the Lads, dissappointing turn out but some good craic,Glorious sunshine on a crisp Winters day with some big swells coming in,to be honest i thought the pier would be shut but no the gates were open.
Set up first of all down from the blocks on the seaward side, fishing was slow to start off with, soon started picking up bites mainly small stuff and the odd small Codling coming in,Dave(Parrot) was getting a few good pulls on his rod but just one hit wonders.
Heard of a few fish coming in off the end of the pier a couple of fish about 2.5lb and one over 4lb.
About 2 hours into the flood we moved down to the first gates, still some movement in the bay all though it was dropping off.
Same story here, plenty bites but mainly small stuff coming in,I managed a flounder which was in size, weighed it at 9oz laugh.gif Safely returned to grow abit.Still no sign of any decent fish at this point
As the sun started to set,the temperature started to drop, bloody freezing.
Dave got a cracking bite and struck into a better fish,as it came in close the fish got snagged up in the tangles, but he kept his cool and gave the fish a bit of time and sure enough it came free and landed the fish.A nice plump Codling 3lb exactly.
And that was it as far as the fishing goes,i think most avoided the blank with the smaller fish but all in all a cracking day and some good banter, nice to see a few Cod coming in on the pier after the very poor recent weeks.
A big well done to Dave(parrot) who took the winnings with his 3lb Cod,Nice one mate.
