Me and my mate (Brock) fished high water down to low water (11.45pm) last night. Nice swell rolling in from the north. I had 2 cod, one well undersize and the other about 4lb. Mate got two coalies, one undersize and the other size. Baits lug and mussell. Not a bad night considering recent reports.

cheers, just to the north of the point, small round skeer in the middle called knacker hole, not as heavy ground and usually a few more fish.

Thanks for the info mate, cleadon club are having an all day rover this saturday and as i havent been fishing the opens this year i fancied seeing some of the marks further north that ive missed out on fishing. Never fished past low newton but had a look on google earth and the grounds around the point and to the north look like my cup of tea. Looking at the weather forecast it could be a good sea running, does the area fish in these conditions or am i better off fishing elsewhere? Cheers.

well as you're probably aware there is by far no guarantee at this time of year for where the fish are, but in my opinion you stand as much chance there as anywhere, what id advise you to do is choose a big tide so youve got plenty of time to move different places and you can get a good idea of where the gullies, holes etc are. The area fishes well in big seas in winter and flat calm in summer. the point to the south of beadnell offers deep water and there is a small wreck within casting distance (so ive been told), but expect to loose every rig you put in the water and if you get it back its a bonus because the ground is lethal from the point. the next skeer to the north is my favourite shot, its a shorter more rounded skeer, if you casr into the gully to the north there is a deep hole called "knackers" or "knacker hole" which can produce. if you cast into the gulley be carefull because the hole drops off sharply and your gear can become fast on the retrieve - I usuallycast north east as oppose to due north. all the other skeers are worth a look its just a matter of moving around and sussing the place out.
              hope this helps

Aye Tony the reel definitely helped!!
