Hello lads took part in the Police regionals today at Seaham (full report on club catches later).
I BLANKED. It was very hard going. Saw small coalies caught, a 25 cm codling and a nice 34 cm flattie.
Took my young un but should really have left him home due to the cold and boredom. Whinged all afternoon.
Heres my young un having a sarnie and i gave him my coat-his lips were going blue with the cold.

The sea picked up towards the end of the day.

And at one point came over and washed some of my gear into the bay-lost bait boxes and scissors-nothing of great value.match was called off 5:15pm.
The TT had a couple of falls-but looks like no damage.
Tommy my lad was glad to get back to civilisation.

Now when does the fly season start again?.

The money that club has raked in over the years you would think they would have put railings along it by now, i wouldnt go on it if they paid me! . Unlucky on the fishing mick, the lad looks happy all the same.

too right there mate all the donations and that coming in last time i was on there a big gurder was sticking up but plenty dosh getting spent on the new development and shud be the pier as its the main defence for the harbour

The South pier looks a very good alternative. Seems sheltered by the North Pier.
Will have to get off there one day.

It's not,when the south pier is a- wash is very dangerous the waves can run the full length and wash everything off in one sweep and as the waves get to the end of the pier they can build up bigger.
Take great care if fishing the south pier unlike the north pier you get a bit wave slap first to warn you.....not so with the south.
Anyway thought it was still a no-go for anglers ?

me mate tripped on the old rail sticking up n smashed his hand, all it needs is grinding off but no one seemed interested back at the clubhouse n just laughed about his trip to hospital and 6 weeks out of action!

seaham club members have the right to fish this pier but they have to pay to do so, Where does all the money go,

If the docks get a % of this money surely some of this money should be used to make the pier safe, I do not fish this pier because i think it is very dangerous and i know a lot of anglers who think the same.

Railing is a very big issue on this pier and i think if railing were put up it would make the pier a 100% safer then it is now.

I have seen many reports about guys losing gear on seaham pier, these guys are paying good money to fish on a pier which at times can be very dangerous.

fished the north and south piers a lot years ago, the thing about piers as most will be aware best fishing is when sea is dying off these two piers seem to sit very low imho.

all i can say you cant take no chances what so ever on these two piers just get off at first signs of any waves near top of pier its just not worth it no railings nothing to grab hold of you are washed straight in .

fishing can be good at times on the north pier even when calm especialy the lighthouse area.

I've also fished both Seaham piers over the years, but if there's any sign of the sea picking up or a wind shift which could cause waves to come over you must get off straight away.
Seaham sea angling club are one of the best run club in the north east and the last thing they want is anyone losing gear or worse still there life.
They state very clearly in there rules you must leave the piers at the first sign of water lapping the pier.Also don't go on with a wind forecast that onshore.
In fact they will and have banned anglers because they didn't adhere to this rule.
The dock company and Seaham club have a good working relationship but this could be spoilt by anglers taking risks.
The dock companies primary responsibility's is to the safety of shipping in and out of Seaham docks and putting railing along the pier wont improve safety to shipping one bit.

The whole Dock Area is currently having loads of work in relation to the new Marina that is being set up. The Seaham Club run a Comp nearly every fortnight without any major incidents on the North Pier. One condition and rule is that if any member is fishing the Pier and it becomes awash (even just a single wave) then that member has to leave the pier instantly. This has gone on for years without death or injury. Yes its in the pipeline for railings to be placed along the pier, but all I can say is, if your not happy to go onto the pier because of its state or condition, then Dont...The club itself could not afford to carry out this work, and along with other establishments, Seaham Angling Club has bills to pay.
you can log onto the Dock Company website and find out whats going on down there, and the work that is being carried out.
