  • Lynemouth beach 26th Jan

Had some bait to use up, so took two rods with me to Lynemouth. Fished from 3 hours down 'till 1 hour up. One rod was fished at distance and the other (Greys BZE Bass rod) closer in.
Caught 5 different species : 2 x bass, 2 x coalies, 2x flounders, 1 x codling and 1 x rockling. Nothing to get too excited about as all were undersize (and returned).
The reason I am posting this however is because I caught 7 of the fish on the Bass rod (about 70/80 yards out). I only caught one fish at distance (one of the bass)
Very enjoyable outing, despite the lack of sizeable fish. The codling and the other bass gave quite spectacular bites on the light rod, despite being only about 1 lb each in weight.
Next time you fish this beach, try a short cast, if you are struggling for bites at distance. Might be worth a try........you never know.
    Cheers...............BAZACODBASHA

The BZE rod I use is the 11' 9"" version (2 - 3 ozs casting weight) Only use it at Lynemouth if there is not too much swell on. l do use it on the sandy beaches, and have had some success with it using a "rolling" lead. However when I fish Lynemouth I use 3 ozs grip lead.

After reading Alan Charltons bit last week about casting too far, I've started taking 2 rods, one for distance the other to fish close in. I don't have the confidence to use just one rod and to fish close in. The angler on Tynemouth beach last night wasn't casting that far and he caught more than me, so there is something in what you say.

At the north end of Tynemouth Beach (Bottom of the stairs) I ve caught codling 20yards out. It's where the troughs and gulleys are. Flounders at Druridge and Warkworth feed right behind the waves - sometimes just a couple of yards out. Always worth knocking one short.
                  PBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz.. Coalie 1lb9oz.. Flounder 1lb7oz.. Dab 15oz.. Plaice 13oz.. Bass 1lb 6oz
