Me and phil185 headed to our usual mark at Ryhope. When we arrived there was a nice sea running, cold temperatures but no wind so things looked promising.
Set up for 9pm and chucked out a lug and squid bait on a pulley rig. This resulted in a codling of 1lb11oz.
Second chuck Phil's line snaps half way through the retrieve, I reel in 5 mins later and pull in Phil's rig with a undersize codling attached and on my hook was another codling 1lb15oz. It had the head and upper body of a 3lber but the lower half of a 1lber, a very weird looking codling which I returned. My arms were aching after pulling in 2 fish and 12oz of lead.
We got pushed off by the tide after a few more chucks and left as we have to be up at 7am for the rally at Croft tomorrow. The access is still dodgy, wet mud which is hard to climb down.
All in all an enjoyable nights fishing and I got to test out my new AFAW beach rod which I liked a lot. Also we found a Brama Brama when digging this morning, cool looking thing.
