  • First session back

After about 6-7 years i finally got out yesterday to wet a line. Took my father who hasnt fished for about 40 years, so you can imagine the scenario. Anyway hit north horden beach (via 4x4 which was fun) 1 hour before lw 1pm and fished right up till 1 hour after hw 8pm.

No major mishaps or birds nests, it was like riding a bike to be honest, all came back naturally and thoroughly enjoyed the session. The sea was calm with the slightest of rolls, totally wrong time and conditions for this beach i know but it was basically just to blow the cobwebs away with hopefully a chance of a bite or two.

Nowt doing during daylight hours mainly crabbed off, as soon as it got dark the odd bite started appearing, not big enough to take my 3-0 pennel set up which was disheartening but promising all the same.

Was just about done when i got a little rattle and managed to hook into a tommy codling of about a pound, how chuffed was i? While i was sorting jaws out me father had a cracking knock and heaved into something a lot bigger, looked like he was going to outdo me on his first session but he managed to lose it off halfway in poor bugger.

So anyway there we have it, i managed not to blank just!! No pictures im afraid as the lens couldnt fit it all in

Cheers lads, aye it was a very enjoyable shift, great to hear the water again and stare obliviously at me tip light Had a good bit crack on with me father aswell. I gave him an old pier rod and fixed spool just to see how he coped, and he was knocking it out about 50-60 yards which is plenty far enough for that beach in places.

I have an old century rod not sure on the model as its been rebuilt that many times that needs a reel seat fitting in fact it wouldnt hurt it to be rebuilt altogether (might get it sorted for xmas for him)

I am hoping to get back out sat night if i can get some bait sorted that is, seaham open on sunday wont help. Lost touch with all my bait suppliers, most of them passed away likely Eckling on getting a bait pump myself if anyone wants to show me how to go on with it , dont worry im not asking for where to go with it i already know a couple of marks, but whether digging or pumping is easiest im not so sure on or how to do it correctly. So bait permitting arl be out sat night.
