  • St Peters Basin "NO FISHING"

Me and me mate fished Browns point the other night 2 down 3 up and never had a sniff even though the baits that were being cast looked good enough to eat.
Packed up after 5 hours and went up the Tyne to St Peters Basin to use the bait up and within 20 mins into codling biggest being 1.5lb all went back into the river.
Considering that the local residents were setting fireworks off and were effing and blinding full of the drink for the 2 hours we fished one local had the cheek to come out and ask us to stop talking, bearing in mind we werent swearing at all and we were quiet, he then pointed to a NO FISHING sign so I asked if the Port of Tyne Authority had authenticated the sign or was it a local council bylaw or act of parliment that had passed the erection of the sign and he couldnt give an answer he had obviously had it made and put it up himself.
As chance would have it we were packing up to leave when he came out.
We were both gobsmacked and he nearly got one the @^%:~#..

Does anybody know if there is there a fishing restriction in force at St Peters Basin ?

I'm sure this 'subject' has been brought up before on this site. As far as I can remember someone on this site confirmed that the Port of Tyne authority had nothing to do with them, and in fact the notices had been erected by the residents of St Peters basin, so they have absolutely no legal binding.

I'm sure someone will confirm if I am right or wrong.

      See this thread mate: http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/shore-f...ing-signs.html

Basically there's no restrictions, by-laws or anything else - it's one of the residents putting them up.

was chatting with a policewoman down there a few months back about them. The only official signs down there are the no drinking in public type signs, which is fair enough (she was ticking them up at the time)

the residents probably love us, endless hammering, power tools etc

              Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.
