Fished Fri night 1hr before low until 2.5hrs after. M8 and I caught 3 coalies, 2 decent flounders
all returned.Apart from rain was a good night.but need some help identifying a fish.
10 mins after returning coalie i noticed a splashing in the shallows thinking it was the coalie went to get it. It turned out to be a fish about 3lb in weight and one neither of us had seen before. It couldn,t swim in the shallow water and I managed to catch it by hand. (biggest fish I have caught in 5 yrs )It was silver a deep body about 5 times deeper than its width with a small upturned mouth, body was very powerful. No camera or mobile phone so couldn,t photograph it. As it was healthy I couldn,t kill it so released it in deep water.
Fish not in my Water Life of Britain book so haven,t a clue what it was. Anyone any ideas
Might pop into Blue Reef to see if they have photos i can identify

Yeah, I would suspect a Ray's Bream - think it's about that time of year when a few usually get washed up.

        Cheers, Gary

Thanks guys, I have never heard or seen a Rays Bream before. just shows never too old
to learn. I will in future carry a camera
As an aside my mate won,t agree to it counting as a fish caught, surely its harder to catch a fish by hand than by rod

thanks Agent, Google came up trumps the photos were exactly the same as the fish I had.
A Rays Bream it certainly was

thanks to everyone who replied, Anyone know why they beach themselves as on Google it seems to be fairly common
