Got work for a couple of months so decided to have a good last sesh over the NE.
Myself and me mate got to St Marys for about 1030 am Friday and we fished down to low in to west bay then me mate moved on to the island for a few chucks in to crispins gulley, I stayed put and had a few small knocks, probably coalies. Me mate didn't see anything.
The plan was for me to get on the island before HW but I opted for a quick run to Cullercoats planning to fish it up to HW there.
Bad luck No 1 .....Parking ticket! Wouldn't be so bad but my ticket that I paid 3 quid for was on the dash.
Had a go at the bottom of the steps at the North end of the Longsands, bit of weed piled up but it wasn't to bad if you kept the line up.
Bad luck No 2 .....While I was chucking out for the first time 2 dogs had ravaged me bag and snaffled me steak and onion/Ham and tomato tea cakes, not to be out done a third dog promptly ****** on me bag!
Anyway my mate landed down but was struggling to hold bottom (we were in 2 cars) so he decided on having a run up the coast to find somewhere for a chuck. A couple of casts later and the weed was swilling about so gave him a shout on the phone and we decided on Craster.
The swell was a bit heavy for fishing the shore at Craster....made that mistake before. Got there for just about HW. There was 2 rods on the North pier and about 5 on the South pier so it wasn't that good and not much of note getting caught so after less than 2 hours we were heading back down South to Blyth Pier. Got there about 10 ish and me mate opted for a kip in the car.
I was surprised there wasn't so many on the pier mabes only about 10.....nothing getting caught was probably the reason. I had a couple of small knocks and one solid bite and that was it.
About 0115 back to the car where me mate had woke up and it was off to Newbigin for the first of the flood. Plenty of weed at the edge of the skeer below the prom but a move of 100 yards solved that problem. The ragworm was coming back brand new so it was on with the yellowtails.
Low and behold a codlin about 1.5 pound! By this time I was &*^&ed and was just wanting to away yam but had to have another couple of casts, similar bites but didn't connect. I had the feeling there could have been a few about but it was by now after 4am and I had the 2 hour drive back.
Bad luck No 3 ......Left me mobile on the street at Newbigin! Fortunately theres some nice people about about and it's coming back to me in the post! Thanks!
23 hours and 290 miles after leaving home, got back absolutely knackered.
Not so much bothered by the lack of fish that's the way it goes. Just need to build a bit of knowledge about marks etc.
Long report sorry but no pics.....On me mobile aren't they!
