  • Eastern Europeans

Anyone starting to notice how many Eastern Europeans and Asians are starting to fish in the area lately. Fished the Groyne at Shields last nite, and must have caught about 20 undersize codling and 3 size whiting. Next to me were two lads from Latvia. Both using 3 rods each, but not catching much. As they watched me pull out the fish, they asked if they could keep the codling, told them that they were to small to eat, but they said could they have them for bait !!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say the fish were returned safely, and I lived to tell the tale.
Gave them a nice velvet crab which they said was for bait, but went into the carrier bag.
My last cast at 10pm produced a cracking lobster, youd have thought that id pulled in a bag of gold by their reaction. Turned down their offer of £2 for it.
Have seen familys of Chinese fishing the Tyne up by the business park, and whatever came out of the water never went back.!!!

No wonder they were getting nowt if they were using codling for bait. lol
I fished up whittle dene in july, there were a family of polish fishing with no liscences and keeping everything they caught (gudgeon and roach). When i approached them about it i was told to f*** off.

      post

there is a similar thread to this on the WSF forum as well and i suspect many others all on the same thing. It would appear from some of the clever dicks on these threads that you are being rascist if you critize, Instead they would rather you be an apologist for there behaviour. hmmmmmmmm !

seen the polish fishing the tees bay, they keep every thing no matter how small it is, i told them that it was illegal to keep undersize fish they told me in a not so polite way to urinate as i was leaving, and as they where all inibriated at 6 in the morning i decided to let it stand [i was out numbered ten to one in my own country] it's not right.

personally the racist thing on this thread would be laughed out lol, latvian lads aside, its always gonna be the same... migrants or not, like mack bashers catching anything then cooking it in the sun while they fish for more.... I wonder why we even have size limits anyway... no bugger inforces them.

To keep codling as bait just shows that even thick BEEEPS can fish, badly that is.

As for the £2 i would of countered and went, for 4 of your rods?? then its even lol

              undersize fish

have been on to fisheries commitee about so called anglers taking undersize and they did not seem to be that interested and it a was fobbed off, saying theres not a lot can done as theres only four blokes to patrol an area from the tyne to well past scarborough

a suppose if more people reported the taking of undersize fish they might eventually look into it

                try DEFRA
there is also a problem with Thai's, Asians etc, taking undersized eating crabs, lobsters, all the velvets they can carry by the bucketful.

have they ever thought of putting the word out about getting volunteers, easiest way would be ad's in tackle shops, its very doubtful that the lads that take the tiny fish actually visit the tackle shops, probably use morrisions own lol (or asda's right price.....morrisons just fit in nicely)

another point a put to the fisheries commitee could it possible to put notices of fish sizes on piers and popular places to educate these people into not taking undersize fish and said they would look into it

Please keep your comments non abusive and only about the undersize fish or this will be locked.

Blackrat, when you say you lived to tell the tale, did they threaten you?

Surely someone in your position could do something about this as it is against the law to take undersize fish, I assume you did report it?

                      Jim.

A few heavy fines and high profile arrests would help.

theres got to be a number to contact DEFRA.would it make a diffrance if there was a lot of people reporting this sort of thing.i suspect this is happening all aroung the UK.but i think only a hand full of people will be reporting these things.maybe it would make a differance if more people reported it

I agree Scott, that's is why I asked Ian if he reported it. If I have time tomorrow I will make a couple of calls to DEFRA and see what is said and let you all know if I get anywhere.

I can't see any point in just mentioning it on here, quite a few people seem to see this happening but how many actually do try to do something about it?
