  • Lost a pig today

Fished Marconi point (browns point) today over high water. Stranded myself on there over high water. Lost a double figure fish.

2 hours into the ebb, rod nearly pulled in, massive pull down and rodstand lifted. Managed to grab rod, fish on, first darted left towards north crab hill and then trying to keep it left it went right as I was bringing it in swam into the rocks below that were uncovering (screws). Swam right and could see its bucket mouth and tail on top of the water, 10lb plus fish. Then hook slipped and was gone. Gutted.

Managed 4 out to 3lb and 3 coalies and 4 rockling. I swear I have caught more rocking on the north side of Cullercoats than anywhere in the north east.

    That's a sickener Mark....hard lines.
I always think that marks that produce a lot of rockling also throw up the good fish. Almost all of my better fish have had rockling in them.
I know a mark along Marsden where the rockling are a pain and I experimented with a live bait rig for a big cod but with no luck.

    Ian.

Never lost a fish that big that I saw. Must have been gutted mate. Agree with Ian aswell, I've seen a fair few cod with rockling in their stomachs. Might not make too bad of a bait! Always next time bud

Nothing worse mate, especially when you get to see the fish at the surface! We've all lost big ones just keep trying!.. Still a canny bag there too..

Shame you lost it mate. Canny lift up for a large fish as well. Been a few good fish caught over the years from there, and a few lost as well.
