Got a text from Gregg wanting to go fishing earlier in the week so after looking at the tides and forecast the call was made to head to a spot on the lower reaches of the Tyne

Rocked up at half six and set up on the small strip of beach that fronts the Black Midden mud flats and cast out the usual Rag and Macky one up one down flapper for a nice fat flatty...

It was a really pleasant evening to be fishing

Well all the Rag and macky was catching was big dogger crabs so the next rig was a Crab baited rig tipped with the claws

No bite detected and the bait was left in the water over 25 minutes - so I reel in...felt heavy, but going off the first cast I assumed it was either weed or a crab...well it gets heavier and starts kiting under the water

35/36cm Flounder, nice and fat, easily pushing 1lb+

Hooked in a really bizarre way through the gills back out and in the gob stylee so just snipped the snood and put the little fella back - no harm done

I must point Gregg WAS fishing the same methods but by this point had only caught this beast of the sea...

We both started getting knocks that resulted in more small coalies

and this one was one of the better ones at just under size at 33cm

They were coming in really close to the shore line chasing the sprats as well - wicked sight

A canny night all in all - listening to the charva boy racers rev their engines and listen to some really old skool dance classics...to be fair they were pretty harmless

Anyway last chuck out before heading home resulted in this little fella

I feel bad coz I\'d \"guaranteed\" Gregg an Eel to the crab baits and have to admit I was surprised they weren\'t about - but I know he\'s made amends in some way with his catching in the wee hours of this morning...I assume he\'ll make a post at some point

    Cheers

    Tony

Nice evenings work mate. The video of the sprat is great. Should have tried spinning for a bit if there is that sort of activity.

blyth harbour behind the harbour masters hut is the place to be this time of year for eels ;D

the wee jetty behind it, casting into the bit where all the boats are loaded / unloaded. walk past the pier enternace, turn left and go as far as possible, small wooden jetty ;D

I have had some moster eels there.
Not the best fish to catch, they always make a mess of my traces lol

Aye I've caught my one for the year already...mucky buggers and wrecked my trace

Yes Sean he's wanting an Eel amongst other things - which to be honest shouldn't be that hard

Chances are Gregg will pick one up while fishing for cod, the race doesn't end till November and I always catch most of my eels in September/October.
