if they are much bigger than the porpoises you have seen before, then they are dolphins ,which species i don't know, maybe bottle nose ,but a fantastic sight all the same.

Just seen this thread. Last night I went fishing up at Hadston and this guy said, have you seen the dolphins? Didn't believe him at first as I didn't think you got them in this area but I looked through high power binoculars and sure enough there were a group of five, coming right out the water and diving. Was an awesome sight, and would never have believed it if I hadn't seen them.

Fantastic! but do you reckon they were jumping out of the water on 'porpoise' ?

I've seen them a couple of times when I have fished from Cullernose point, always a great thing to see.

good thing to see, but you know you will struggle to catch when they are around, same with dam seals lol

we were watching a few big pods of killer whales right up the top of the north sea last month when i was offshore. they were amazing, they were right ont he top, huge fins, looked like they were after mackerel as the gulls were going mental around them. few big pods spread out over a canny area. best thing i have seen out in the north sea.

always, good to see wild animals locally and not on the tv.

Seen a large group of 20-30 dolphins last weekend just of the end of the rat house pier at Sunderland. What a fantastic sight it was seeing them jumping out of the water.Wish I had my camera with me.
I will only be out for a couple of hours pet.
