  • South Shields Pier 5/7/09

Fished the end of the pier ( spinning ) into the river from 5.30am to 7.30am. Hooked 2 mackeral and lost both of them on the haul up the side

Only saw one other mackeral landed ( daylights )along with a few sandeel and the odd small flattie to some guys bait fishing right on the end. Sea was very calm and the sprats were jumping, expected a better session. Dreading the wife waking up as I promised some mackeral for the barbecue.

It was my first time on this pier and I will be back.

          shields pier fishing........

fished shields pier from half one on sunday till it started thundering and lightning,i fished the wall right at the end into the river directly between the piers, using only spinners, and got myself two pollocks weighing in at two pounds each and a mackerel, the woman next to us got a pollock over two pounds on daylights just down the side of the wall, and some bald bloke got and nice 4 pound cod straight out over the back wall,so its nice to see the fish are showing,...if your after the pollock they are sitting real deep, right near the bottom, cant wait for the weekend
