i'm a bit confused ,what is happening on blyth pier between the salmon fisherman and the local anglers. i've never seen a salmon fisherman casting nets off any of the h, pool piers, although i have seen salmon landed on mackerel lures .

is that legal ,also is it legal to actually net salmon close inshore when they are trying to get into the rivers to spawn.

the salmon boats have tied their nets off south shields pier for at least 30 years that i know, and we don't have the problem you have probably due to the size of our pier. these people who throw leads at the salmon boats are idiots and could lose you the pier. if like our salmon boats and they pay a canny sum to the powers to be, to fish for 3 months of the year june, july, august they probably have the right to fish there.

WHY DOE,SN'T SOMEONE CHECK IT OUT

The netsmen or anyone else is not allowed by law to attach lines / nets to s/s pier, They just throw the loose end on to the rough sloping part and that holds it, Plus there are weights that hold the net on the sea bed.

Was on last night for an hour or so, took one 2" coley foul hooked only saw one other fish caught, small coley on bait - doubt it would be anyone off here, guy's unhooking method was to stand on it and rip/drag the hook out needless to say the fish went back dead.
Lot of moronic kids mucking about on the pier though - seriously, who rides a bike back and forth at full tilt on a packed pier?

Pity about the idiots on there mate. I prefer early morning, they dont seem to get out of bed at 5am so its a bit more pleasant to fish then.

Unfortunately for me I'm an early starter, walk the dogs at 5am - 5.30 and at work before 7am, which after 13yrs is getting a bit rough on me (used to arrive at 6am for a few years). Would love a couple of hours here and there during the week otherwise. Weekend is dogs on the beach - drive from Blyth to Druridge for pre 5.30am, back home about 7am knackered.

I need my eldest (15) to hurry up and be old enough to drive and take the mutts out on a weekend morning instead of me!!

I fished blyth last week for a few hours and roker as well for a few hours morning time and on both piers there were people drinking cans of larger and belching as loud as they could whether they though this made them hard or maybe's its a cry for their numpty mates to come on and join them. its amazing at that time of the morning that they want to bring their cans onto a pier and look rather stupid. There are times and places to have a drink but I dont get the idea of getting p*ssed while fishing whats it all about or are we all missing something.(rant over now) Lets hope we all get some decent fishing in over the next few weeks and enjoy.
