  • Blyth Pier - early morn 24/06

Headed down to Blyth Pier early this morning - I had the place to myself so headed straight for the end corner & got my baits in the water about 1.30am. First cast resulted in this double-shot

the flounder being about 30cms. Nearly every cast resulted in either one of these little fellas

    or one of these

All the flounders were a canny size - around the 30cm mark with the best about 35. The dabs were all small though, as was this little chap

As the sun started to come up (here's an arty shot of sunrise over Mr Richie-Fishy )

I was joined by a few others on the end and a few fishing down by the bend, so I switched over to the spinning rod. Between about 4-5 am I managed to bag seven of these critters

with a few others dropping off - I even let one run for a good 5 minutes to see if it would show any signs of tiring-out but he just kept going!! By about 6am things were slowing down so I decided to put the baits out again and finally got what I'd really come for

a lovely fat plaice weighing in at just under 2 lbs Also had another couple of flounders as well, and had the occasional spin as the odd mackerel was still turning up, and managed one more.

All in all a pretty good morning, finally called it a day about 8.30, so time now for a quick sit-down then I guess it's time to get filleting!!!

PS, reckon there must have been about 30 maccies caught by the time I left; most from the end but I did see a few come in down by the bend.

    Cheers, Gary

Thanks lads, it was a pretty enjoyable morning, only a few brief lulls in activity I'm guessing quite a few will have been caught this afternoon as well; shame the forecast for the next few days shows strengthening easterly winds (again!) Tomorrow morning should be worth a shot though - just don't think I can manage two nights in a row these days

                          Cheers, Gary
