Fished from 8 till 12 midnight. Caught 3 coalies on oiled lugworm in the first couple of hours. Nothing touched the large crab cart . Last hour I tried razor and mussel and got 2 cod 44 & 42cm. Warm night and today will eat the fish. Next time bring more mussel and forget all the fancy baits

Had a decent bag out of the river a couple of weeks ago, mussel or mussel cocktails accounted for all of my sized fish. For £1 a bag its a bargin. Great for adding bulk to other baits.

It's a bugger to keep on the hook though. Anyone tried salting it?
My mackies and worms are tougher when salted, so mussel should stiffen as well, or not?
Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

Let's know how you get on then.
You should know within a day if you salt them but the longer they're left salted the tougher they should become.
I have a pair of mackerel used as flip flops after a week in salt.

Well..... you know what I mean. When I salt mackies or worms they stay on the hook for ages.

When I use mussel I get about 5-8 mussel and then thread them all onto the hook and then use elastic on it and it's normally spot on like

Me grandad used to salt our mussel when I was a youngun. He used to lie them out individually on newspaper cover them in salt for a few hours, flip them over then same again and wrap them in the paper and in the fridge till we were going out.

I keep meaning to try it myself but haven't got time to get any fresh.
