Decided to have a little trip south of the border () today, so paid my Ł1.70 for the tunnel (how come those machines never seem to count your coins correctly? ) and had a shot at the Walkway for a few hours this afternoon. It's only my second visit, and the first time in daylight - last time was the second half of the NvS NESA match when it was blowing a hoolie. It seems like a very nice mark; easy access & comfy to fish and a few other lads were down trying their luck.
Anyway, was straight into the little codlings, one nearly every cast till it went a bit dead around low water. Here's one of the little fellas:
I have to say, unlike the Ice-Box across the river, the ships seem to pass by really close - could clearly see this one had my name on it Mind you, unlike the Ice Hoose this seems like a snag free venue (?) never so much as bent a hook today, but it looks like you've got to avoid a few bouys up towards the top end.
I also had to endure a few brief showers (without my waterproof troosers) but it did make for a few minutes of picturesque scenery -
Apparently, according to a couple of lads I spoke to, it fishes better over the high tide, so I think I'll try that next time. Every cast for the first three hours of the flood resulted in something - sometimes a fish but always some big ribbon of weed or a plastic bag. The tally by the time I packed in at 7pm was 8 little codlings - all bar one taken on lugworm (they really didn't seem interested in the fresh crab at all ). Most other people seemed to be catching them as well but I never saw anything sizeable all afternoon. If anyone's got any tips on fishing here they'd be gladly received - I think I'll definitely give it another go soon.
