Busy session last night just down from Gateshead stadium. Fished 3 up from low water using a 2 hook flapper, frozen crab and lug. It was bites from the off and basically either one or two codling every chuck near enough. Mainly undersize but there were 6 size among them, all returned except for one deep hooker. Strange for me was that lug seemed to be preferred to crab. Nothing big but a nice bit of sport. Took a couple of pictures of two of the (marginally) better ones. What was great was that using a circle hook on top of pennel seemed to mean the fish went back ok, virtually every one was just lip hooked on that. I suspect I may be a late switcher to those hooks but experience is good up to now. Many thanks to Andy Copeland for advice on mark and how to fish it.
