  • Blyth Pier 22/01

Well, finally had my first sizeable fish of the year, 7lb from the Bend today. First cast at 4.30pm, the baits were only in the water 10 minutes when this comes along...

Mind you, as I got it to the side of the pier I see it's tangled around someone's busted-off leader, which happens to be fast at both ends, so I can get it halfway up before it'll come no more. Took about 20 minutes of jiggling up & down before it finally came down to which leader was stronger - pulled slow & hard and luckily mine won out. After that, only rocklings & crabs so by 9.30 called it a day - when I left I don't think anyone else had a thing. Only bait they seemed interested in was straight lugworm.Good to be finally off the mark for 2009!

Here's hoping for some more soon!! Gary.

          well done mate.
nice to see a good fish from the pier, i like the bend always seem to get decent fish from there.

just had a good night at seaton sluice tonight. won the south beach comp with a codling of 4lb3oz, lost 1 of the same size and had a few knocks. had to move due to the tide forcing me off

Cheers lads, thought I was in for a good session, but it took another 4 hours to get one other good bite, which never came back. There was a nice bit of swell running when I got down, but had died right off by the time I left. Good to see some fish at the Sluice end - I did see quite a few lights down that way & wondered if it was fishing. Looked good on the beach early on, but I'm betting it'll be flat by the morning.
