  • Amble Club Match 11/01/09

Fished the Amble Club match in what can only be described as a sandstorm! My face is still stinging today from being shotblasted.
Me and Darren fished at Newburgh beach just to the North of Sid's hole. There was nothing until the tide dropped a bit and then Darren had a small codling, he measured it and said it was undersized so returned it, It was only after checking his measure he found out he had measured it to the Bass mark so the cod was well in size for the match!
Next cast Darren had two cod on a pennel rig with the two fish weighing 5lb something, that was it for him. I ended up with two small cod for under three pound. The worst thing was that the heaviest bag in the club when we left the weigh in was just over 6lb so darren would have won the heaviest bag with the fish he put back by mistake! Measure twice put back once!

Where do you fancy this sunday Tony? Strange tide so me and Darren are going digging before the match so the worms will be tip top anyway, going to have a look around before choosing where to fish! Hope the sea stays on though! I have got to replenish the box with sinkers though after a huge depletion excercise at Seahouses in the open and at least 5 last sunday! On a positive the box is a bit lighter though!

To be honest Graham, if the forecasted southerlies show I might be tempted to fish the pier, or possibly White House sands.

        See you sunday !

Great minds think alike, I was thinking the pier, Darren had an 8lb er and our Colin had a good fish there last week, just hope the lift stops on. The pier is good for a kebab and chips about eight o clock as well!!!!!

Just in case I don't see yous at the weekend, can you spread the word that the club pairs starts next sunday (25th).

Anybody wanting to enter should register at the cabin between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm on the day, so the draw can be made at 4.00 pm.

            Cheers.

Nice to here of the "odd fish " being caught on this coast, but mind you it is the odd fish only. Got a static van over in Drummore,Mull of Galloway.Due to the dire state of the fishing on this coast have not cast in anger off Whitley beach for about 14 months. When I did fish in front of the Redevous Cafe about a year ago one dark winters night there had to be about 15/20 of us fishing on a mile stretch.

Well as far as I know I had the only fish of the night - a rockling foulhooked!!

I can redcall back in late 60s/early seventies catching good cod by the Clock at hw during daylight hours!!!! thats before the cod got trawled out

I love fishing to bits but dispair to the max with this coast. I know the odd "goodun" comes out but it is a rare occurance. I really hope the fishing picks up on this coast for you lads.

There is always plan B and save your coppers for a few weekends away on the Mull of Galloway. Mind you the fishing is not mindblowing but at least you can target you species off the shore. You can target -mackerel from late May,pollack.wrasse, conger, tope, mullet(hard),bass,l sds all day!!!

Hoping for a good report from Whitley beach and you will see me there!!! Want details/marks for the MOG giz a PM
