Fished whitley last two nights 2 hours down and up from low tide.
Last night went with me mate. Bait used was Lug, razor Squid, rag and mussel cocktails in various combinations. Sea was up a little, maybe 3 foot or so swell and practically no wind.
First cast me mate gets a canny bang on his rod followed by a few bounces, so brings it in and gets his first ever cod for about 2 and a half pounds.
Over the next hour or so we both get a few hits but nothing staying on. Just before low tide he gets hit again and brings in the twin brother of his first fish, almost identicle in size.
Both carried on fishing but nothing more so a blank for me and have still never caught a cod. (First season fishing though and there is plently of winter left)
I decided he wasn't going to get all the action so I though I would have a solo mission there tonight. Asked my lass to pick up some bait for me as she works just round the corner from a certain shop. Gave her a shopping list of 2 bags of lug, 1 rag and some mussels. Got a call from her after she went saying they didn't have any lug or mussels and when she asked for something similar (she knows nowt about fishing) they sold her some frozen mackeral fillets????
So hearing this decided to pop down to asda after work and bought some live mussels from the fish counter. Total waste of time as they were tiny and falling to bits. Got home and checked the rag which was tiny, half alive and falling to bits.
I thought sod it and expeted the worse. The sea was flat as a pancake and there was a slight westery. Fished for about and hour down and 2 up. Managed a small ling of about half a pound that got sent back safely. As I wasn't expecting anything at all was quite pleased not to blank. Had a few small knocks but nothing came of them. Packed up and got meself a nice kebab.
All in, two good nights fishing and learned a lot from it. Going to give the next few days a miss and head back out start of next week when things pick up a little.
