er, dont,t want to spoil the party but in my personel opinion and i,m not looking for controversy here, but the codling are very small and really should have been retured to the sea to let them grow for the future, nice pics and well done on catching them. but they where to small for the table.

I was fishing just along from the lad in red mate.
I don't think there is anything wrong with you taking a couple of fish home for the table. You could argue if it was a 20lber you should put it back for someone else to try and catch thier dream fish. If he had taken a dozen just over a 1lb then maybee that's not great but a couple???
What do you think gets weighed in at most club matches and opens? A lot of them are just left at weigh in for organisers to dish out as the angler's don't want them. I didn't say all of them before i get slaughtered lol.Best shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach

Ive only been on that pier 6 times now and im new to it so i can say that its hard to get on but you do get used to it after 3 times.
Yes your not allowed to go on but the life guards dont mind ppl going on just not teenages or idoits just out to cause trouble and cause damage, then your off!
I only go on at night time 2 to 3hrs before a high tide, then get off 4hrs after high tide or later, i walk under the wooden blanks on the concrete path way much safer than walkin above if winds are strong, but in my case (IF YOU DONT RESPECT THE PIER THEN YOU DONT RESPECT YASELF) then risk of life.
greggthe1,
Anyway if i was to catch 5 to 8 fish weighin at 1lb then they all go back in for another day remember codling grow fast! if i got a 20lber then i wud take pic then chuck it straight back in, then pass out!
paulthespark,
Its ok just im the same but it was my first 2 codling of the season so i wanted to eat em lol, no harm.
Lowrider,
Access is stilk ok just walk on the bottom not top. Its burned near the end..

Don,t know the pier you are on about but we have a one down Hartlepool you are not allowed on its called the Heugh. Everyones auntie ignores this and we climb over the fence. No railings on the end but as long as you are careful you are ok.
Then we have Steetly. This is an old pier which belonged to a Magnesium site. It made of wood and goes out a long way. On the concrete end it is very dangerous-metal plates have been pulled up and if you go down its curtains. Again if you use common sense you are ok.
As to the fish well i would have kept them. Couple of canny fillets there.
Nice with some chips and peas around them.
If you had put then back they would have probs died from the chuck back anyway.
Mick.Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Mick.
The Pier is here: Google Maps
Below pic is were the fish were caught:
And ive never fished the Heugh but it sounds worst off than cambois pier, but as i said early its better to respect the pier, its your life at the end of the day.. only takes a slip up n your out! aye the fish were nice with chips n ketchup
These days i think old old piers should be re-vamped and open for fishing to all respected ppl!Last edited by Richie_fishy; 11-03-2009, 11:59 AM.
