    well went down to use the rest of the bait up there was plenty lads fishing the ryhope match i think ,fished neckend seaside no bites at all so decided to fish the bay side still slow going . first bite i had missed a slack liner then next few casts i hooked into a codling weighed in at 2lb 10 saved the blank anyway

    not much after that i know there was whiting up on the top and a codling at 2.5lb from the barrier .i packed up at 10 and headed for home

          Those slack liners are a barsteward. It must have been something big which somehow loses the bait. Did you have a pulley rig or a pennel.

            pennel pulley mick for some reason the fish wernt feeding right you can tell this when you get a hit from something and never seem to return or you just lip the fish

              Not necessarily Mick, I've had belting slackliners off the end of there from one and a half pound codling - and thats with a grapnel.

              If theres a lot of tide, it doesn't take that much for a fish to rip a sinker out.

              What used to make me laugh is you'd see blokes on the end of the pier get slack liners, and start walking backwards, and walk straight into the lighthouse

              Panic would set in until they realised that they could reel the slack in instead of going for a walk .
