  • Sluice open

My first open and I made a bit of a mess of it. Fished just north of the Doctors House at Howick and had 6 positive bites on crab/mussel/blacks. Only landing 2 codling at 35cm (had shrunk by the time I got back!) and 39cm. The other 4 bites I was fast in the rocks every time and by the time I had snapped off the rotton bottom their was nothing to show. Didn't see anything else caught around there but enjoyed my day out. I think I was too positive using 5/0 hooks and huge fist size baits, should have just fished for what was there.

Congratulations to the winners, some great bags. I will keep trying to improve.

Magpies mate, you done nothing wrong with 5/0 and big bait's and rotten bottom, the fish shrink all the time mate, need to try and keep them wet and if your going to comp fish all the time get a wet fish bag , well done mate see you at the shields open

The big bites when you were stuck may well have been lobsters M8!
I think there are loads around at the moment.
Was getting huge ''bites'' on Whitley Pipe a couple of weeks ago. Bait coming back shredded and no fish hooked.
Well done on having something to show for your efforts.
