Hi all, you might want to make a cuppa for this one, or phone in for a sicky its long, the report that is.
I had another trip up North with Mike (round 2 of TW@T HILL too, DING DING) on Sunday inspired by Marks (FishingMark) catch last week, what a fish, we want some of that mate lol. I went for my bait Saturday afternoon and Terry (Reelsport) was saying its gonna be choppy that way, but the weather and the forecasts said flat seas etc and it had been planned all week and it looked good, killjoy before we even left, thanks Terry haha.
I see a lot of reports with slating certain tackle shops and praising certain tackle shops in some reports/posts on here. So I would like to just say I got top bait from a top man (as always) at a fantastic tackle shop, I recommend Reelsports (South Shields & Hebburn) to anyone and everyone in the area as without Terry and his shop I wouldn't have bait (and a couple of rods and terminal tackle etc) so I wouldn't catch fish, so a big thank you Terry.
OH and he was right about the conditions.
Anyway back onto my report, we left for Eyemouth at 5.30am Sunday with hopes high after hearing of the crabstick lots PB's through out Saturday evening. We got to the cannons mark bang on 7.30ish so a good 3-4 hours we could have on this mark, however it wasn't looking too good when we got there with a bit of wind swell. (There was a local guy on already bait fishing and he said the fish have just come on, he was there when Mark got the 10lber too, seemed canny enough).
Not to let us get all this way for nowt we set up with bait in on 1 rod each and Mike ledgering a bit with a bait over side while I float fished, I think I left my brain at home as it was proper scattered (scatter brain) and I have no idea how many fish we caught or where really tbh.
We got plenty of fish though with a PB for me and a target keeper for Mike, sadly nowt for me to keep.
Targets were big pollock and Wrasse, but just like our trip to the MOG it was mainly Wrasse playing ball, for me anyway at least. Although this trip the Wrasse were big mo-fo's with the smallest of mine for the day 1lb.10oz and my biggest of the day 2lb.6oz a PB for me.
I got my float set up and I lost 2 takes off the front at first (after local left), (can't remember if I caught owt before that), anyway on way up it managed to get away but I said to Mike third time lucky I'll get it and sure it was WOOT.
EEEEhhhhhs.
AAAAhhhhhs.
Scatter brain took that last pic haha, oops.
It got to about erm, non fishable time on cannons with only Wrasse falling to my (Reelsport Rag) and nothing at all on my bait cocktail of black lug, squid, sandeel and macky on the big rods, fussy fcukers.
We decided because of the strong winds we should go somewhere else where the winds are blocked off (obvs), and the wind swell isn't so bad, "cough" bell hill "cough", you didn't just say that did you, or as now renamed "TW@T HILL", yes its a TW@T, maybe named Bell hill because any eejit that goes down there is a bellend, or now for me, a tw@t, yep you have to be a bellend or tw@t, simples.
I've been a bellend and a tw@t, I was a bellend first time. I thought when I looked at it I'm a bit scared but watched and laughed while poor Chris (outcast) slid down there, then it happened to me, OUCH, I also lost my bottle of water during the slide down. We had some good stamp fish though (we lost some better ones too) in a 1 hour period then it went dead, I said when we got to the top after fishing this mark that its pretty easy this place, bad for going down but easy to get back up, then realised I had split my arse cheek and ripped my jeans and water proofs..
Anyway.
We got down good even after the usual crazy 20ft slide "TW@T", got onto the rocks and the fishing was good, again for a good few hours mainly Wrasse, again bigguns, again all on the float for me.
Spinning brought about nothing so back to the float for some Wrasse to keep me interested, bites dried up so it was a case of switching between float and spinning (switching lures etc) for me. Then bang Mike got a good take on a 40g zenith, a good 3lb.4oz pollock, jammy bugger.
It was the only keeper of the day sadly and it fell to Mike, bollox lol, we thought the big pollock were coming on because at the same time the small coleys started taking the lures, I mean what eat small fish, big fish haha, not today though.
I decided to target some of the really small fish, sick of bloody small coleys and big Wrasse, I wanted a species point for a small species, Wrasse family etc maybe. I went to #14 hooks on my float (Reelsport rag) and bang, missed it, another (Reelsport rag) rag on and bang a pollock of around a pound (typical), it wasn't the expected 10lber on that size hook (you don't understand my luck if you're questioning this) but it was a target species non the less and my first if the day.
It went totally dead around tea time-ish so we decided to take the daunting task of going back up cliff, easier going up from what I remember last time as already mentioned lol.
I got about halfway up and my bag swung over my shoulder and knocked me off balance and away I went on this huge slide, (its not a wet & wild slide LMFAO), ripped my goretex waterpoofs, a 6" gash down my side (thankfully its not deep) and I have lots of bruises and ache like 10 horses kicked SH!T out of me.
Story is I hate TW@T HILL, never again, we did say that last time though.
We went for some usual curry and chips in the town (av only got haddock) when I asked for curry and chips.
We went for a scout at cannons to see how the sea was at 6/7pm-ish for our last mark to fish but sea was still away so after much debating we ended up going to the golf course marks.
As usual here nothing was doing for me, though Mike managed a couple of small coleys and a lovely deep red kelpy cod, sun was going down, moon was out and nothing doing so time for home. Thanks Mike mate for driving location to location as always, and for some of the pics, scatter brain here forgot to take loads through out the day lol.
Thanks for reading guys.
