First time out this season from the shore to fish the first round of the Amble club singles knockout. I ended up with two codling for three pounds something in total, the heaviest one was 2lb 9 if I remember correctly. Conditions were like a summer night with a warm breeze and a flat calm sea. I got hung up with one fish and lost another on the way in so it could have been four but never mind. The bait used was crab, lug and razor cocktails. One lad to my left had a good dab and the lad along from him a codling. Not bad going with the tidal state and flat calm seas, it bodes well for when there is some lift on if the fish are there on a dropping tide and flat calm. Both of the fish I got were nice fresh run fish as well.
