Tony, I used to fish Blyth beach a hell of a lot, you have to do a lot of work to get the best results mate. What g-force says about the Whitley Bay club record is perfectly true. You have to get down the day or tide before you intend to fish, have a good look around and find out where the best holes are and get a mark on them.
I have had great nights on there casting just 20 or 30 yards into a hole while people just along from me have been blasting towards the horizon without a bite. You then get the inevitable question "What bait are you using", then "Just the same as me you must be lucky". Aye, lucky I came and saw where the hole was lol.
I found that things started to pick up on there around about this time of year and more so as soon as the Sand Eels showed up (very soon). You must have loads of nice Lug with you to fish it, sometimes as a cocktail and sometimes by itself. That was the one thing that I could never understand lol, sometimes just Lug sometimes with Rag, Mussel or Razor. I think the best results I had were with just Lug but sometimes you would hardly get a bite without something else. I used to fish a lot with a mate from Blyth and he fished it regularly with frozen Sandeel with good results, I tried them lots of times and I don't think I ever had a fish with them . Strange, what will work for one will not work for another.
I prefered the Sluice end of the beach at low water, also the middle toilet area and behind the farm. Low water I prefered the north end, farm or middle toilets. Fishing the north end you can get away with just a pair of waterproof boots if you want but the other marks you will need waders, even if it is just to give someone a piggy back off the sandbar lmao. There are usually some good sandbars with big holes behind them so to get on early you must have waders. I have had lots of good fish to about 7 1/2 lb off that beach and also some cracking bags too. It is always worth a shot if there has been a good sea running for a couple of days.
Jim.Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.
