5 of us made the 9hr drive up to the Isle Of Skye. Me, my dad, my bro, mick and simon. This trip was planned in January and id wished most of the year away for it to come round. Spurred on by some good reports we headed up full of hope.
Before I start the report ill tell u a few things about Skye.....
Everywhere u can see looks like a potential fishing mark,
The midgies make u want to pull your own face off,
There are no EASY marks to fish, they all involve a walk or a climb or both,
U can never find fresh mackerel when u want it but when u don't its everywhere.
There are Germans everywhere!
DAY 1.
We never planned to fish the first night but after driving for 9 hours I wanted some fresh air. We chose to fish Roag island, a short drive from our digs. I fished 2 bait rods, 1 with mackerel and the other with crab. Everyone else chose the spinning gear. For the first 2 hours all I could manage was a ballan wrasse on the crab, while everyone else pulled in small Pollock and coalies. I moved round the island to fish a channel and within 2 mins my ratchet was screaming and I landed a spurdog of around 9lb. Next cast I was into another, then another. Over the next 2 hours I landed over 100lb of spurs, with my biggest going just over 11lb. The others decided to join me in bait fishing and everyone landed a spur, with mick and simon getting one on there spinning rods.

DAY 2.
With the weather sunny and the sea flat we headed to Niest point. This has to be one of the most amazing places ive ever fished. We decided to fish the left of the lighthouse. The water is around 100ft deep at your feet and there is a strong tide pull which comes and goes as it pleases. From the off we were all into Pollock round the 5lb mark on the spinning gear. When I could hold bottom I managed Spurs to 10lb, Cuckoo wrasse, poor cod and dogfish on bait. When I used crab, my bait wouldn't even hit bottom before I had a fish on.

DAY 3.
We had the morning off to explore the island and go and dig some bait. I had used 40 crab at Niest the day before and our mackerel supply was running low. We found a lugbed with worms around 10 inches long and also clams. That evening we headed to Moonen bay. Simon and my bro had already been there a couple of hours and had Pollock to 6lb. We instantly got among the Pollock and I had something huge attack one of my fish on the way in, 10 mins later up pops the biggest seal I have ever seen.

Later that night me and mick headed down to Niest to try for a conger. We didn't manage any but we got huge numbers of Pollock to 5lb on spun sandeel....
