  • Loch Etive

Decided to have a long weekend up at Loch Etive with my son, after a six hour drive we arrived to some nice weather and some fantastic views, after a tour of the loch we pitched the tent at the furthest most road point on the north side just before the quarry,Arran set up his spinning rod and i set up the heavier gear in hope of someting decent, after a few casts Arran was into a small pollock which made a good account of itself on the light gear, unfortunate for the fish it was badly hooked so this one was supper along with some mussels picked off the rocks,i would also like to point out to anybody going this time of year it would be a good idea to take some defense against the midgies as before dusk we were eaten alive.Into dusk and the Dogfish started quite a few landed but no sign of any spurs.

Day 2 we fished church point, as we arrived a guy pulled out a good size ray,so it looked promising, very surpised at the depth of water at what looked like a shallow mark,Second cast hokked into something decent which battled all the way in only to drop off as hit the weed close in,gave it a couple of hours and then moved to the south side below the bridge but the tide rip was
too strong.spent what was left of the day looking at different marks, the quarry looked like the place to be but the obvious mark looked a bit crowded.
the weather turned nasty at this point with heavy rain and high winds so we called it a day.Kipped in the back of the van to avoid an uncomfortable night,we parked at taynuilt slipway.

Day 3 we woke to what sounded like a party, but it was the whole scottish fishing population descending on the slipway there was hundreds of them boarding boats which were surpisingly heading inland upinto the loch which was obviously where the deeper water and the fish are.
fished church point again with about half a dozen anglers but no luck on this day so headed home mid afternoon.
Just to keep our spirits up we stopped inthe mountains and fished for wild brown trout with mepps spinners, loads of fun.

all in all not so many fish, but learnt some new marks and we had a cracking time
