went down at 5-30 this morning to fish upto and over high tide.got loads off knocks,little codlings,kept having problem with bait sliding back up hook snood.i was using clipped down pullys and had a sequin and stop knott to hold bait in place but loads of times when I wound in the bait (crab and muscle) had slid up the snood.ended up adding another stop knott but still had it happen a few times,this made me miss a few bites,was only using small baits (one muscle and half a crab on a 1/0 big dog hook).im using mono the tie the sliding knott,would power gum be better or has anyone any ideas why this would be happening.anyway got a few small fish to christen the t1000 and ultegra plus nice morning till 8ish then started to rain a little

theres a few ways to keep your baits in place on the hook especially soft baits like crab/ mussell etc, personally i use plenty of cotton on the hook before tying on the crab and finish off with plenty above and below the finished bait always making sure theres plenty of point and gape showing or you could whip a few crab legs very tight to the shank before putting on your crab as above, or you could do what a lot of the Yorkshire lads favor and wire your hook with a paper clip or soft wire wound around the shank and through the before tying on your bait....
ive used all the above methods and they all work but its down to personal preference which suits you best

thanks for that.i have a big bobbin of heavy elastic I bought to tie bait on but its way to thick for that,ill try putting that on hook shank before bait

I have started using breakaway sliding crimps on my traces and find they work fine for stoppers. They have a nice little piece of rubber inside the crimp to prevent line damage... Don't crimp them too hard and they slide perfectly well. Also have some powergum but the crimp is far and away better

Best thing for big soft baits I have found is a Pennel rusted round the line 3/4 times then hooked tight in the bait.

browns well is a good shot in the winter with a bit of sea on could have been a lobster pulling at the bait as there are quite a few in that area of the well lads put pots in the well in summer. davy.

between cullercoats and whitley bay on the bend there is an old swimming pool carved out of the rocks crawleys is all along the back and side of the pool. davy.

Try a short length of silicon tubing, loop the line back through, then a sequin. When you pull the line tight it locks in place like a stop knot but tighter and it's far easier to use....then your elastic on the bait. The silicon tube works for float rig depth adjustments too.

I have always used a sequin or bead with about 6 turns of single strand telephone wire with long tag ends above. You can adjust the tension by twisting the wire tighter. Wind the wire around a sinker wire to form the stopper, you can make loads in a few minutes and take them fishing as spares.Worth a try and see if they work any better!

went back down over high water on sunday night,fished when rocks were still showing till after high water,used a pennel this time with crab-muscle-black lug and bluey.lost more gear .don't normaly loose much here with the braid .must be the two hooks causing more hook ups in the veg ?.anyway same again,lots of small codlings and theres a lobster swimming round with one claw.lol

Its the small prom at the back of north crab hill. The pool in the rocks is to the left and in front of the pool is crawleys.
