  • Sunny shields pier, Sunday 20/07/14

Got down to the pier at 10am this morning for high tide at half 10. Got on the 44 and put the big rod out, but the main target for today was just to get a Blenny for the species hunt, so dropped the float down in the harbour side.

Just after I got set up, Anthony Morrow and his mates came along - good group of lads, and good to meet another NESA regular.

First fish on the float was a Sea Scorpion

    Then a green Ballan Wrasse

    Then I got my Blenny

After ticking the Blenny, I concentrated on the big rod, and got a nice 35cm Plaice

Followed by a Coley, then a small Dab.

My mate Sean came down, and Mad Rob and Toonboy, so I moved down nearer the 43 to fish with them.

I got an orange Ballan in the harbour side with the float rod, and loads of tiny Coley and Pollock.

The afternoon went very slow - between 12 and 5pm I had one Dab and a Codling, maybe just over 1lb.

Mick got a lovely coloured Wrasse on the seaward side, and Rob, who had been trying hard all afternoon for a Wrasse on the float, ended up getting a nice Corkwing. I'm sure Mick will be putting some pics up.

Had to leave about 5.30pm because I was getting severely sunburned!

Great day to be out, loads of good crack; no big fish but some nice little ones!

Unlucky mate; there must of been about 30 rods out between 42 and the blocks, but not a lot of fish. The wrasse-attack made it worthwhile though!
