me dangler and mick cave made our way down to chapel point yesterday to catch some nice weather and flat seas.
wayne was also meant to have been there but couldnt make it in the end.
anyway we got down there for 2.30pm to be met with a beach full of anglers and after a bit crack was informed there hadnt been a fish of any kind landed, infact a lot of the locals had said theyd never heard of any fish in weeks other than some nice codling when the sea was away, but not to be put off we found ourselves a nice spot between a few of the locals and were quickly fishing with crab baits blasted as far as possible.
we must have only been fishing for half an hour and were onto our second cast when dangler gets the first knock of the day resulting in fish number one and a first for him a nice starry of around 5lbs
the local lads didnt understand what was going on when only a couple of minutes later dangler pulls in another one, this one being around the same size
me and mick were also wondering what was going on when i get a good knock resulting in probably my best starry to date somewhere around 8lbs
so pressure off only an hour into the seshion and only mick to save a blank when he pulls in a thornie to start his day off
the local lads by this time had all started to pack up and head home obviously not impressed by the lucky sods from the north east,or could it just have been that we were using crab
anyway it was around this time that dabcatcher, baza and zippie turn up to be told about the first hour and a half of our seshion, but as luck would have it the fishing slowed rite down again at this point as the tide was well into the ebb and a bit weed was starting to be a problem on most casts.
it was a few hours later when i managed a half decent size flounder,
i think by this stage that dabcatcher had caught quite a few of these but we didnt photgraph them as he was a bit far up the beach to keep running backwards and forwards.
so whilst it was quiet it was time to find a local shop for a few tinnies to supp with the sun going down, and on returning back to our rods we noticed the poolies with a barby on the go, a few cans and a couple of sausage sarnies later it was back to the fishing.
by now it was dark and the weed was still a problem but a slow and steady stream of fished were pulled in throughout most of the night,i think it was zippie who got the poolies off the mark with a nice codling
then to prove the codling wasnt a fluke, baza pulled a one in aswell,
it was around this time when i managed another flattie nearly the size of me box lid but a bit thin and only weighing in at just over a pound,
then believe it or not but dangler then gets another starry,
zippie was the first poolie to pull into a nice thornie before dabcatcher pulled in the biggest of the seshion both great looking fish
i was by this time sitting talking to dangler about how many diferent species had been landed when a couple of doggies were pulled in,dabcatcher and dangler both posed for the camera.
i was just the bloody camera man for the last couple of hours but it was great fun and we were hoping for a couple more hounds towards high water and first light,
it was zippie again for the poolies who landed the biggest hound of the night at just under ten pounds,
it was just about starting to get light but baza proved there were more species to add by first pulling in an eel,
and then a schoolie
it was just after first light and an hour or so into the ebb when we called it a day,it wasnt the most hectic of seshions by all accounts but still a good trip out,and a good laugh with the boys.
