  • SSP 16 July

Fished the last 3 hours of the flood last night just past the first gate. Hoping for a Plaice or two, maybe even a wrasse on the float.

Stuck the Yuki summer rod out with a 2 hook clipped rig, small hooks, bit of bling, rag/mackerel/crab combos.

Took a while to get a bite but a real big rattle resulted in a very angry Gurnard (see pic), not sure about the species, any ideas? Went back fine.

Meanwhile commenced operations inside, wind was too lively really for the float but LRF gear produced a string of little coleys and some bonny little Pollock (see pic) - kept me interested.

As the water flattened off toward high tide the Plaice put in an appearance and to a decent size (see pic) - all returned to fatten up a bit.

Not a bad little session, spoiled a bit by wind and heavy showers, but brightened up by a great dolphin show in the bay.

It's a Grey Gurnard, they have all those little boney knobbles along the lateral line. I had one the other day further up the pier, mine was feisty aswell!

Well done on the catches, it's always good to try a few different techniques and get a few different species.
