5 of us headed up to the MoG area on the morning of the 27th in the hunt for Pollock. Dug some bait at
Ryan Bay and had a few hours on the jetty for some additional mackerel bait. Plenty of macky about as usual and fish taking lures the same size as their actual body
Day 1 - Headed to the Port Logan area-ish on Saturday to a mark that has fished well over the past few years and nobody ever seems to be there/know of it. Canny hike, especially for the older lads
arriving an hour or so after low water, conditions where good and sea calm. 4 rods out and 1 float and I was giving my new Shimano Vengeance a bash spinning - nothing
Refused to give up, so went for an extreme spinning set up for big distance - set up with a 60g zenith with 8g eddystone firetail with 15ft Salt XT with the new XSC 10000 I got from a NESA member the day before (Cheers Mart, its the best FS reel I have used, line lay is perfection)
Me and our Nath headed round to a nearby point I had success spinning from last year.
Unbelievable - like someone flicked a switch - with the extra distance the Pollock came 1st cast to about 10 casts in a row sometimes in doubles on a zenith and firetail.
On my 3rd cast I hooked a 2lb pollock on the zenith along with the best fish of the day 4.5 pollock on the eddystone - felt massive really thought it was going to be easy my PB pollock, snagged for 5 minutes in the kelp before it pulled free did not know it was a double at the time of course.
Fantastic days fishing in the end, bait useless on the day but lures deadly. Easy 30 pollock caught, half a dozen for the pan taken back to the caravan.

Day 2
Me and Nath headed back to the Port Logan area with the oldies opting for a more local and less grueling walk/climb venue. Weather even better, sea like glass and straight for the spinning again off the point. A lot slower this day despite the more favorable conditions. Pulled in a couple of wrasse on the float taking rag/lug combo but best pollock of the day only 2lb this time. A few nice maccy taken home but no pollock big enough - disappointing compared to the previous day
Highlight of the day was a new species for me and even better taken on a lure which I believe is rare (correct me if I'm wrong)
Day 3
Port Logan - again...weather glorious today, sun tan lotion on, trousers exchanged for shorts and away we went.
Absolute load of pollocks it was, must have pulled in 20 between me and our Nath on the spinners none bigger than0.5lbs, nothing about today, again a few decent maccy taken but very disappointing.
Perfect conditions
Day 4
Forecast very poor today, total 180 from yesterday so went off the caravan sight for some doggies which were in abundance from the same spot last year.
Unfortunately the loch was FULL of weed and struggled to hold bottom on top of that. I decided to go for the pendulum and stuck a bait out as far as possible to clear the weed, which resulted in the target of a doggie which took about 10 minutes to bring in with all the snags.
Highlight of the day was catching an uncatchable species according to the locals from the loch Ryan...our friend, COD!
Was only 6-8 inches length but still was fun to see and put a smile on my face. The amount of locals up there who are full of absolute sh!t when it comes to fishing is just embarrassing, but none of them had the gaul to speak of cod being caught, so it was fantastic to get one over...even if the comeback was a 6lb Haddock being caught from the same mark a week earlier
Day 5
Went to a popular bass mark a bit nearer to the Mull itself for some possible trout as well as the bass. 4 bass between us, biggest about 1.5lb. Terry brought in the biggest ballan wrasse I had ever seen at an easy 5lb absolute monster. I quickly googled the shore record I thought it was that big but it turned out the shore record was about 9lb
So it was retuned along with all other fish of the day (sorry no picture of the wrasse)
Day 6
With the weather due to be tragic for the next day we would be heading back, so decided on the Mull itself this day. Winds were strong SW so fished the "wrong" side of the Mull. Very poor, worst day of the trip with 1 decent maccy and a tiny pollock being caught despite our best efforts.
An aright trip overall,as usualy enjoyed the holiday as much as the fishing and looking forward to going back up in August.
