Hello all,
My apologies for this report being a week or so late, but better late than never I suppose.
I've just spent a week in North Wales and although I missed out on the rays and bream I still had a canny weeks fishing taking the ever present Doggies plus Pollack, Flounder, Bass, Mackerel, Garfish, Wrasse and some cracking Huss, with Danny and Lew getting the biggest. Not having done much since the end of our winter season it made a very welcome change just getting out fishing again.
I was there on holiday with my friends Lew Marsden and Danny Moeskops and although they were staying for two weeks I could only stay for the first week. Lew and danny managed to get some very good Rays in the second week once I'd gone home, just my luck!
I was very lucky with the weather getting a cracking week with no rain although an onshore wind brought some weed onto the beach for the first day or so making it hard work. Once the weed cleared and the beach was fishable the doggies arrived in huge numbers, eagerly snaffling up our baits within seconds of casting out.
All our fish were returned as soon as any photos were taken and over the week I only kept mackerel for bait and and just one Bass for our tea. I'd urge other anglers to do the same, especially any Huss as they are now in the process of dropping their purses.
Anyway, here's some photos.
JUST BEFORE SUNSET
SOME CANNY FLOUNDER
TYPICAL SCHOOL BASS
DANNYS BEST HUSS
MORE HUSS
OPEN WIDE
ME WITH LEWS BEST HUSS
The High point of the week was the pod of dolphins that swum within yards of where Danny and I were fishing, it was a brilliant sight, and the low point was my decision to fish for Huss whilst wearing shorts, I'm sure my skin will grow back in a year or so!!
Also the rubbish left on the Gimlet rock was appalling, it seems some of us will never learn untill its too late.
DOLPHINS
THE WRASSE WERE GOOD FUN
BUT THESE WERE NOT SUCH FUN!!
Regards Ian.
