Inspired by Young Cameron's success (and his old mans!), and with advice from fishingmark, I popped down the marina to try and get an eel for the species hunt (and to have a couple of hours fishing!).
The only bait I had was an old half a packet of runnidown in the freezer, so I blitzed it in the microwave and got down to hebburn for about 7pm. Didn't need to cast so just took my 5ft Yuki Rubymar and made a 3-way swivel paternoster with a size 2 Aberdeen and 2oz weight.
First cast and I got a good knock (every knock looks good on the rubymar!) but reeled in a crab; every cast after that was the same, crabs every time.
High tide came and went and the sun started going down so I decided to have one last drop at about 9pm.
When this one knocked I knew it wasn't a crab, the Yuki bent over, and I reeled in my first eel, I don't think I've ever been happier to catch a fish!
Enjoyable couple of hours, and into double figures on the species hunt now! Cheers for putting me on the mark, fishingmark.
