a couple of yrs back me and a mate ran out of bait on tynemouth pier one night, there was a few cod being caught that night as we already had a couple,as tide was going out we we decided to go further down the pier to the rocks got a load of limets and used them as our own bait was used up,between us we had think it was 9 cod up to about 5lbs,good night that was and one ill allways remember
so never knock the power of the limpet

Used to fish with a handline when i was a kid in the rock pools down roker, used to catch bullheads, blennys, crabs etc on fresh Limpets,Always remember seeing a large cod trapped in one of the deeper rockpools quite far out on a big tide, spent about an hour trying to catch it with Limpet it wasnt having any of it,since then its sort of stuck in my head that cod dont like limpets.

Never mind using the buggars for bait ,i watched river cottage goes fishing last night ,he was cooking them in there shells with some garlic and herbs and they were all stuffing there faces they looked quite tasty,i am sure i watched Rick Stein(seafood oddysey) eating them raw straight off the rocks or was i sh@tfaced.I would also point out they did quote that they were collected from a very clean stretch of coastline,i would not go down to the rathouse rocks and start filling your faces when you feel a bit peckish, although if there are any charvie type people reading this FEEL FREE TO EAT AS MANY AS YOU WANT!!!!!!

never used them personally as bait but have heard of some good cod caught on these in recent winters, but they are also ment to be an excellent bait for Wrasse in the summer. Would never try them but its more or likely fish will eat anything if dispersed in a rough sea i.e razor, mussels etc. They might be better than whiteworm or crab for all i now LOL.
