  • seaham sun/mon/tues session

well, managed to get last monday and tuesday off so decided to get the rods out and get fishing.
bit of a southerly on, so with hopes high i set off sunday evening for the flat rock at seaham. got there just before high water.

not long before the rods were out
    .
that southerly then got evil, and every cast i was getting fast. stuck with it till the tide was well out , regrouped and fished the next up and halfway down. tried rag, lug and squid without so much as a bite until around ten in the morning when i got a slack liner which i missed . time for a move...

headed off back along the blast to the spiles
had a couple of hours sleep then rods back out. that wind had dropped off a bit by now. fished for around two hours with only 1 crab to show so moved up the north pier.

(photos taken just before leaving tuesday around noon)
bumped into a few lads fishing around the thirty mark, they were catching decent numbers of whiting so i set up on the 36. things were getting desperate by now so it was whitey time!!my mate brian then turned up, cast out and caught a codling of around 1 1/2 ib.you can imagine how pleased i was !!!
Anyway, SHOCK AND HORROR, i then got a bite which felt quite heavy which resulted in this...
    a lovely 5 pounder.....get in!!
hopes were up by now , and a steady stream of bites resulted in a dozen whiteys mostly around the 3/4 to 1 ib size. baits were rag/lug and squid in various combos, some with a good spray of wd40 on.

things slowed down around 6am for a couple of hours, then a bite and a heavy weight which felt like a decent fish.
turned out to be a flattie, hooked in its back..must have been like an underwater kite!!

managed another flattie soon after before calling it a day....absolutely knackered.

for anyone interested, cod had pipefish and a crab in it when gutted.

    over and out

Nearly all the fish I've taken in the last 3 weeks have been full of pipefish. My mate found some live ones flapping on the beach at Horden a couple of weeks ago. The bloke just north of us at Horden had a 6 1/2lb cod full of them.

A nice marathon session there mate, at least you got fish in the end. Well done on the 5lb - er.

Those marks look cracking. I have never fished around there before and would love to have a go.
I do not recognise the pier.
Is this the private one the Seaham club has ?.
Oh and well done on the fish.

                Mick

                More than i got yesterday.

I had couple of nice bites and some lovely big doggers.
