well with it looking as though it will be flat, i personally would fish the seaward side any where up from the second steps to the roundhead(included), although the area opposite the steps can still be quite snaggy, i would opt for a 1 up 1 down rig baited with worm baits and tipped off with either mackrel or squid using size 2 hooks, there can be excellent bags of whities here along with some speciman dabs and flounder.

but saying that a certain chrissy hossack can fish into the rock and kelp and still pulll some great size cod in even thou its flat, u will find the rock and kelp any where between the sets of stairs and also the barrier before the first set of stairs, this area is very snaggy so rtton bottoms are a must.

round head casting straight out, just to say left of centre into the channel (30-40yrds) produces the best chance of codling.

Fish seem to favour bunches of small lug..

Bit of a bold statement Mick one thats not quite right either.

Chris Hossack has had some nice fish on there, you're right, but he's probably cast over half a dozen lines to get them, and then he lets the whole world know what he's caught.

            And thats from personal experience.

just my opinion, but fished next to a lad all last winter who had many a good fish off there, good few doublers loads of 7 nd 8lbers, all on boulmer worm, while ive fished next to him with blacks, yellows and crab and had next to nowt. now this season ive been getting alot of boulmer worm, my catches have dramatically improved. had five cod out all last winter and this season ive had 17 up to now. says it all but like i said thats just my opinion.

as for chrissy only fished with him a few times so your probs right about him casting over peoples lines but as for letting the whole world know what hes caught, i would do the same if i had the fish he gets out, i know what i do when i get a decent fish, i come straight on these forums and tell the whole world

Sometimes plain blow lug is a killer and it is what they are really after.

Have seen a guy on Marsden beach catch on single lug on a single hook - a tactic he had
used often a few years back. Same thing on the round head.

Would favour a "sausage" mesell - three head hooked on top pennel hook and three pushed un the bottom hook....
