  • Cheeky Little Session

    Well...

It was a spur of the moment decision(ish) to go fishing tonight and I was still humming and haa'ing where to go at 6pm...I only wanted to fish a couple of hours either side of low water

Decided on the drive down to the coast to fish Whitley Bay beach...I've never fished it before, but I'd asked around (as I do) and was given a few pointers as to where could be good...

I parked up at the Rendezvous Cafe, booted and suited and wandered onto the beach

Set up virtually straight in front of the cafe

    Bait - Mussel, Frozen Crab
    Rig - Pulley pennell , 3/0 hooks,6oz breakaway

Within 5 mins my rod tip went scatty...

Small Coalie...I thought I was in for a busy night having had such a quick response

next cast - lost my rig, snagged on some hidden snag

Re-rigged, baited and also moved along towards Panama Dip...set up opposite the swimming club and started again

Within 15 mins this little fella took my bait...

MY FIRST SHORE CAUGHT COD !!!

I know it's sad to some of the old and bolds, but up until tonight the humble Cod had eluded me from the shore...I was beginning to think that it was the vestige of those with magic bait and those that could cast 300yds or more

Reckon it was a good 2lb...released to fight another day too

    Then...

Not much...was only ever gonna be out for a couple of hours and only had half a dozen crab and one bag of mussel...

    Great mini session....chuffed to bits

    Cheers

    Tony

As one of the olds (extremely olds) and bolds I can assure you that nobody looks down on you and that we've all caught our first codling at some time, young or old. This year (2007) I've caught one codling so you're up to speed with me, oh yes and I can only cast 60 yards. Don't be put off by the extremes of our sport, there's plenty fish at your feet.
